Beckley, W.V. native and local South Florida grass-roots basketball pioneer Shane Maynard will be tapping back into his Palm Beach County (FL) coaching roots.
Maynard coached at now defunct Elev8 Prep in Delray Beach last year, as the talent-laced elite team climbed the national rankings. Maynard will install a brand new prep school hoops program, Versatility, in Deerfield Beach.
Versatility features a basketball academy with NCAA approved courses and an academically enriched partner school. Training camps, clinics, beach workouts, national prep basketball tournaments and SAT prep classes are included.
In the inaugural season, Maynard’s program will be comprised of advanced-level high school, post-graduate, and international players.

Maynard’s scoring aptitude and playmaking ability enabled him to thrive at West Liberty State (W.V).
He evolved into one of the top scoring guards in the country at the time, shattering numerous school records in the process.
The 6-foot-4 Maynard scored 2,221 points during his four-year career, eclipsing the 1,000-point milestone mid-way through his sophomore year. Maynard was a two-time all state first team selection in high school, helping spearhead Woodrow Wilson to a 2004 state title.
Immediately after hanging his jersey and kicks up for good, Maynard dipped his toes into the ocean and tested the coaching waters.

Maynard soon found his way to coaching positions at a pair of the country’s widely-known and traditionally potent basketball prep schools, veritable Division-I factories.
And so Maynard’s coaching acumen grew.
He grew in both stature and wins, compiling talent-loaded rosters and consistently getting teams to buy in.
Maynard spent time at Massanutten Military Academy (Va.), where he became a player development guru while subsequently helping build up the superior program.
Maynard soon found his way to coaching positions at a pair of the country’s widely-known and traditionally potent basketball prep schools, veritable Division-I factories.
And so Maynard’s coaching acumen grew.
He grew in both stature and wins, compiling talent-loaded rosters and consistently getting teams to buy in.
Maynard spent time at Massanutten Military Academy (Va.), where he became a player development guru while subsequently helping build up the superior program.
While at Massanutten Military Academy, the young assistant helped propel the rise of an underrated guard named Frank Mason.
Mason arrived at Massanutten under-recruited and unheard of. Built like a blacksmith, Mason possessed a hyper-competitive and no-nonsense mindset.
During his post-graduate year at Massanutten, it soon became apparent that Mason fell through the cracks recruiting wise. He initially signed with Towson, with few other options available. Academic issues put limitations on him and part of the post-graduate year was to clear the academic hurdle.
During his lone season under head coach Chad Myers and Maynard, Mason gave an accurate account of his gifted scoring ability and two-way presence. He surprised many, performing admirably against the nation’s elite and raising his recruiting profile tremendously.
After de-committing from Towson and continuing to stake his claim as one the country’s fastest-rising recruits, Mason caught the eye of Kansas.
This past season, the Massanutten product has become an all-time Jayhawk great and NBA draft hopeful.
During Maynard’s stay at the aforementioned Elev8 Prep Academy, he entertained a multi-dimensional and around the clock role. A major presence in player development, Maynard was instrumental in nurturing countless Division-I players.
Elev8 earned national relevance with back to back berths in the national tournament and several signature wins along the way.
The passion and fervor with which Maynard played translated to the prep scene.
Throughout his prep experience, Maynard helped polish a wealth of young talent. He had a hand in the development of players such as Rodney Culver (Ohio), Damonte Dodd (Maryland) Ahmad Fields (Utah/Drexel) Tyson Jolly(Baylor), Terry Brutus (Ole Miss), Deandre Barnett (Miami/Ole Miss), Sandro Noel (Southern), Mo Abu Arisha (Jacksonville State) and Jax Levitch (IUPFW), among countless others.
Maynard made countless coaching connections in the process, becoming a dependable source for recruiters.
