Brandon Redendo has changed jerseys a lot these past few seasons. A deft 3-point shooting guard with beyond his years development as a youth, Redendo has been on a veritable campus-to-campus journey ride. This high school hoops tour has included stops at Our Lady of Lourdes (N.Y.), Lee Academy Prep (M.E.), and most recently the legendary (and now defunct) St. Anthony’s of New Jersey.
A shooter by trade, Redendo has grown to 6-foot-2. His body transformation has enabled him to become more physical and establish himself as a better defender. Playing against countless Division-I players over the last three seasons has allowed Redendo to develop a mental moxie. He’s transitioned from a facilitator to a catch-and-stick threat to a facilitator and all-around scoring threat.
Now hooked on a steady diet of protein shakes and consistent weight room work, Redendo has reaped the results of a late growth spurt. At a more stable 160 pounds, he’s able to drive the ball and mix his long range shooting acumen with hard surges to the rim. Seemingly overnight, he’s developed the natural size of a college-bound point guard. While he previously used his lateral quickness to make amends for his once-undersized frame, he’s become a quintessential tall and long guard.
Expect him to embrace this mentality this year at Trinity Pawling (N.Y.). The school’s proximity to Redendo’s Stormville home and the opportunity to inherit the keys to the offense were major factors in Redendo’s decision to take a post-graduate year. When you consider a massive, late growth spurt that’s allowed him to become a more feared shooter, the prep route was the best possible option for Redendo.
A gym rat with a strong feel for the skill development components, Redendo will look to jack up his NCAA stock. He’s got a knack for getting hot in a hurry, an aspect that gave him an advanced skill-set at an early age. Since age 12, Redendo has been playing in non-age appropriate tournaments and getting his teeth cut against stiff competition on the AAU circuit. Instrumental in pushing his development is his father, NY Pride AAU director and player development head honcho Aldo Redendo.
Aldo Redendo is a known player development ace in the Westchester County region. His high-intensity, professional, and painstaking workouts place emphasis on playing through fatigue and scoring in highly-pressurized situations.
Redendo will shoulder a bulk of the offensive responsibility at Trinity Pawling. It is a role his close friend and fellow gym rate, Luis Cartagena, operated last season. A hard-driving left-handed guard, Cartagena earned a scholarship to NYIT at the culmination of the 2016-17 season.
After playing against some of the nation’s elite competition at Lee Academy and St. Anthony’s, Redendo will have the experience factor working in his favor. After playing supplemental roles the past two seasons, expect him to take some ownership of the offense and impact the game on both sides of the court in 2017-18.
