With Moravian Prep (NC) likely featuring nine Division-1 players and spearheaded by one of the nation’s most hotly pursued recruits in Josh Hall, Jamahri Harvey has flashed true stock riser potential.
With his on-ball defensive instincts and his innate ability to block shots and stop transition leak-outs, Moravian coach Antonio Lowe projects the athletic 6-foot-4 Harvey inheriting a prominent role in 2019-2020.
Beyond his multi-positional defensive acumen, Harvey has emerged into a certifiable three level scorer who thrives with the pull-up game.
His 3-point shooting has also been a pivotal factor, as Harvey shot 51 percent from beyond the arc playing for Team Loaded on the AAU circuit.
Harvey’s adeptness at leaving defenders on their heels by moving with the ball and stopping on a dime for a shot have been noteworthy.
In adapting to the point guard role, the Fayatteville, N.C. native has tuned up his focus as a creator. He’s shown he can orchestrate a souped up, breakneck attack and hit scorers in stride.
He’s also displayed a knack for drawing in defenders and whizzing passes to the various scoring options now flanking him at Moravian.
He’s equally as skilled at shooting it with consistency and permeating the driving lanes and finishing ambidextrously.
Lowe was quick to cite Harvey’s ability to be coached and gung-ho competitive nature as the defining characteristics of his rapid rise.
“I think people are going to be very surprised by how well (Harvey) transitions to the point guard role,” explained Lowe.
“He’s got the tools to make a smooth transition. He’s a very good passer, he sees the floor well, he knows the game as he has a high basketball IQ.”
Lowe has never been one to harp on star power and rankings. His system preaches discipline, character, and accountability bedrock principles.
Throughout his career Lowe has been able to pride himself on taking lesser known, fringe prospects and ultimately helping them ascend the Division 1 market.
Harvey, whose handle is akin to an old school New York City point guard’s, has accumulated nine Division-I offers thus far.
Robert Morris, Quinnipiac, Hofstra, Mount St.Mary’s, Rider, and several others have offered Harvey.
Lowe said several new high major programs, including Providence, are now expressing intrigue and doing their due diligence on the multi-faceted guard.
Defensively, Lowe said, the Class of 2020 prospect will set a loud tone.
“Jamahri gained 17 pounds of muscle this summer and I’m anticipating a leadership role from the very start.
Harvey has also developed a noticeable rapport with Hall. Widely regarded as a future pro who will display unique aspects as a scorer and facilitator and freakish above the rim finisher, Lowe depicts Harvey as helping Hall as much as Hall helps Harvey.
“We’re really getting Jamahri to learn he can be a game changer with his scoring and passing,” said Lowe.
“Jamahri, he’s got it all and his growth his been tremendous. He’s a full qualifier. There has never been any issue with him. Jamahri really is the type of kid who can really go under noticed and then eventually go to the right school and thrive and possibly sneak his way into some NBA draft boards.”
