After plying his trade as one of the Scotland Campus HS’ most reliable catch and stick threats, Class of 2021 Jake Hyman enters his senior year with a wealth of experience.
As a sophomore at Massanutten Military Academy (VA), the Sydney, Australia native formed a 1-2 tandem with 6-foot-11 big Touba Traore (now at Niagara).
As a junior at Scotland, the 6-foot-2 Hyman fired in 3-pointers and was a consistent double digit scorer against wild and wide ranging competition.
This competition included no.1 Montverde, a veritable McDonald’s All American lineup that featured 6-foot-6 Cade Cunningham (Oklahoma State) and 6-foot-8 Scottie Barnes (FSU). The Knights also gauged their grit against a souped up attack from the no.10 team in the country, St. Frances of Baltimore.
Playing against the best and also sustaining his conditioning and IQ throughout the wear and tear of a long junior season, Hyman returns to Scotland as one of the most battled tested guys out of the true seniors.
With a cerebral guard’s game, Hyman proved he can score with either hand and through contact. Having defied the limitations that Covid presented him these past seven months, Hyman has entered 2020-21 with lofty expectations from within.
Hyman On The Role He Envisions Senior Year
” I see my role this year as someone who can be an aggressive scorer on offense as well as bringing great energy on defence and being a leader amongst the team. Which ever team I play for this year whether it’s Prep or HS I’ll play whichever role coach feels is best for the team and do everything I can to excel within that role.”
On The Off Season And Dealing With The Challenges Of Covid
“This summer the aspects of my game I really looked to improve was my aggressiveness with the ball and attacking the rim, building up more and more consistency with my jump shot as well as just trying to expand on my game whichever way I can and just looking at different areas I can work on. I try to never get complacent with my game I am always looking for different aspects of my game that I can improve.”
On Refining His Game This Summer
“This summer I really focused on how I mentally approach the game, I feel that the mental side of basketball is just as important as the physical side. Physically I looked to improve my aggressiveness with the ball and attacking the rim and building up more and more consistency with my jumpshot.”
“I also spent a lot of time in the weight room on getting stronger and more athletic so just looking at different areas I can work on. I try to never get complacent with my game. I am always looking for different aspects of my game that I can improve.”
