After averaging 12.5 points and three assists as a sophomore, Coldwater (MI) HS Class of 2022 guard Brandon Downs is poised for a breakout year.
This much was evident following his performance at the recent Prep Hoops Top 250 event, during which he averaged 13 points and six assists through three games.
A gritty, cerebral facilitator, Downs showed his shot making ability with a deadly mid range jumper and outside shot. His ability to get good elevation on his shot and also connect on outside shots via draping close outs were noteworthy.
The threat posed by the novel coronavirus pandemic did nothing to alter Downs’ focus or stymie his work rate this summer.
He worked at his craft at a furious pace and seized every opportunity to get into the gym. Playing for Indiana Elite and the Michigan Lightning on the AAU circuit, Downs averaged 22 points to go with six assists.
His initiative this year is to adapt to a leadership role, the guy that hits that monumental shot or finds an opening for an assist with the game on the line in a wire to wire battle.
“To be honest when the pressure is at the highest I love it,” said Downs. “I have learned to relish those moments. I love playing against higher completion and playing against the best.”
