ABOUT US
Founder and CEO Kyle Solomon hails from the regal music hotbed of Yonkers.
The city is a traditional breeding ground for musical talent, having produced the likes of Mary J. Blige, Billie Holiday, The Lox, Jadakiss, Styles P, DMX, Sheek Louch, and a barrage of other unique talent which attained prosperity and stardom in the music industry.
Solomon thrived as a basketball star at Gorton High School in the 1980s, one of the most electrifying athletes with unprecedented scoring spurt-ability and shot making ability. He was heavily recruited out of the area by Division 1 coaches, eventually signing with SUNY Albany.
While Solomon starred in high school, he spiraled into obscurity in college while falling into the quick cash and trife life of the streets.
After several years of lucrative albeit dangerous business, Solomon walked away and decided to turn his life around. He bid adieu to hustling and made it his life focus to deter others from walking a very thin line by pursuing the same route.
He then kick started his own prep basketball program, Shooting 4Greatness Academy in North Carolina.
Solomon initially began the non-profit to steer young people away from the pull of the streets, using words of warning and pushing them to subscribe to a structured environment with emphasis on collegiate scholarship opportunities.
While the success of the program helped springboard countless players to Division 1 scholarships, Solomon felt the love for music gnawing at him.
“Music was really my first true love, it is just that basketball paid the bills,” Solomon said.
After several years as one of the staples in the prep school/post-graduate basketball business, Solomon said memories of his late cousin, the iconic Wes “Party” Johnson have pushed him to pursue both.
Johnson was a pioneer in the music trade. Initially a radio personality at WEBB in Baltimore, Johnson’s career continued to flourish as an independent promotions representative.
With hip hop emerging into mainstream music and erupting as a new form of culture, Johnson evolved into a founding father.
He started his own company, No Doubt Promotions, and was later the National Director of Promotions for World Famous Def Jam. He worked with high end talent such as LL Cool J and Slick Rick in their prime.
Johnson and his wife were mentors for young musical minds and influential members of the community. They were instrumental in the development of myriad artists. For years, Solomon said, they had discussed the prospect of him getting involved in the industry.
“At the time, I was in the streets and hustling,” Solomon said. “I didn’t have any time for it. I didn’t take it seriously enough.”
After retiring from the business of hustling and transitioning to a community pillar, Solomon vows to finish what Johnson started.
“It is a way of pursuing a path I always wanted and also honoring the lasting legacy of a tremendous person and entrepreneur.”
As much as Johnson was a close friend and confidante of Solomon, his wife, the late Germaine Green, looked after him since he was little. She had been in his corner from the very beginning.
“Cancer took both of their lives way too soon, but their legacy lives on,” Solomon explained. “I know they were influential to a lot of people and mentored a lot of talent in the industry. This is for them.”
