Thompson Realizes Potential During Busy Summer Grind

During a summer grind that has criss crossed the country, Class of 2023 prospect Blake Thompson is getting a sheer taste of the rigors of the collegiate experience.

As a 6-foot-5 left handed shot maker who has developed the type of above the rim finishing and athleticism which aligns with the game at the next level, the Mississippi native has relished the grind. He recently played in the Kenny Anderson Showcase and followed this up with an event in Brunswick, Ohio. Then in a few weeks, Thompson will be back on the road for the Ballin Under 1Roof event in Louisville during the live period.

“I’ve learned especially in the last year that the off season and off the court has as much to do if not more with my future success,” explained Thompson, who has improved incrementally as a shot blocker and shot manipulating, undersized rim protector.

“I have to believe and invest in myself if I want anyone else to buy in to my dedication. I know from my experiences at recent showcases that basketball is a full time job.”

Thompson shot the ball efficiently, showed deep 3-point range, and got above the rim during a game of 14 points, six boards, three steals, and three assists during the aforementioned Ohio event. This performance best exemplified his all around game and ability to stretch the floor out as a bigger guard.

Being left handed and being able to guard multiple positions and know developing a soaring above the rim game, Thompson has rapidly grown.

“(Defenders) have to close out a certain way on me, trying not to foul me because I’m a left-handed shooter,” Thompson said.

“Sometimes I feel it’s an an advantage. I play on a side that they don’t normally defend.”
