Though they are still prohibited from contacting him directly due to his Class of 2026 status, Providence College became the latest of a rapidly growing list of high majors to offer Riverside Hawks guard Chidi Nwigwe.
Now 6-foot-7 and possessing unique positional size as a lead guard with a thorough, three-level scoring arsenal, Nwigwe has crept his way into the national rankings for his class. And, a steady evolution remains.
Nwigwe turned in back to back 30-point performances during a recent event at The Hun School in New Jersey. He displayed his consistent catch-and-stick game, burying five 3-pointers during one showing. His ability to manufacture points at all three levels and create offense continues to generate buzz among the high major crowd.
“Everyone loves him right now,” Riverside coach Kareem Memminger explained.
“He is a big guard who scores the ball and can really guard up. He is really as good as advertised. What it looks like in college, what a college-ready player looks like, he fits that exactly. Kentucky asked about him recently. Everyone is hearing about him now.”
The upstate New York prospect also garnered a recent an offer from St. John’s.
With Rick Pitino and the new coaching staff looking to regain the national prominence once synonymous with the New York City program, the Red Storm put an exclamation point on their first recruiting class with the recent commitment of 6-foot-4 Class of 2023 point guard Simeon Wilcher.
St. John’s also offered Riverside products Jack Bailey, a versatile 6-foot-9 pick and pop four-man and 6-foot-7 guard-wing Vincent Chaudhri, a versatile defender buoyed by athleticism and consistent long range shooting.
Providence, which made significant recruiting splashes in landing 6-foot-4 Southern California Academy point guard Garwey Dual and electrifying 6-foot-1 Baltimore-bred gaurd Daquan Davis, has also inquired about Nwigwe’s AAU teammate and fellow 2026 point guard Jordan Skyers.
A pace-setting 6-foot-2 point guard with a devilishly flashy handle and an advanced offensive arsenal, Skyers was recently offered by University of Rhode Island.
URI, of course, has had success tapping into the Riverside market with current freshman point guard and Harlem native Cam Estevaz.
Estevaz has lofty expectations to author an instant impact in his debut season.
